Dieffenbachia

The diefennbachia is a popular house plant. It is high poisonous. It can burn the mouth, leaving a person unable to talk. A person can choke to death if the swelling extends to the base of the tongue and blocks the throat. Dieffenbachia are an evergreen plant. The shrublike plants grow throughout tropical America and grow to no more than about 1.8 m (about 6 ft) high, with leaves up to 0.6 m (2 ft) long. The shiny leaves are splotched with red, yellow, or white in many species. The flowers grow on a stalk.
