Objective

To provide students with an opportunity to observe, learn and perform tasks in an employment setting. To provide students with a written evalation of the employer's assessment of their skill and attitude. To provide students with an opportunity to practice their skills independently in an employment setting.

What's in it for me?

Gain experience, learn new tasks, and different approachs to tackling tasks, develop new skills, acquire first hand experience in an employment setting, be exposed to different types of equipment, develop a network, social skills and a resume and acquire references. Explore the possibility of full or part time employment.

Job Market

The R.B.Russell Vocational High School Employment Centre assists students in linking with jobs both for summer employment and at graduation.

Courses

Senior 2

Generic placements will last for 5 - 15 days. Students will observe and learn. Emphasis will be placed on punctuality, attendance and attitude

Senior 3

Generic or dedicated placements of 15 days will provide students with an opportunity to perform tasks as part of a team, learning new tasks and practicing skills.

Senior 4

Dedicated placements of 15 days will provide students with an opportunity to perform tasks under supervision. Emphasis will be placed on skill development, ability to follow instructions and final product.

Evaluation

Employers complete an evaluation at the end of any student placement. It rates the students skills, abilities and attitude. The evaluation is an intergral part of the mark that students will receive toward their work education credits.
